Lantech’s Q300 Turns 30!

Lantech's iconic Q300 stretch wrapper turns 30.

Celebrating its 30th anniversary, the Lantech Q300 semi-automatic stretch wrapper, renowned as the world’s top-selling brand of semi-automatic stretch wrap machines, continues to set the standard as one of the safest and most user-friendly machines on the market.

Lantech invented the stretch wrapper in 1971 and in 1994, it revolutionized pallet unitization with the Q300 and Q-series line of semi-automatic stretch wrappers. Since then, constant improvements have resulted in more than 60,000 machines being installed globally.

Features of the Q300

Made in the USA Badge
  • Made in the USA Every Lantech Q300 semi-automatic stretch wrap machine is manufactured in Louisville, Kentucky by American workers. Even the welding of components is done in-house using American-made steel. The Q-300 and QL400 semi-automatic machines are made using efficient lean production techniques. Lantech was one of the very first packaging machine manufacturers to integrate lean manufacturing into its processes. This is how Lantech remains a leader in machine reliability and longevity. In fact, when properly maintained, it is not uncommon for a Q300 machine to have a lifespan measured not in years but in decades.
  • EZ Thread Film Delivery System Simply pull the positive locking mechanism on the the Q300’s safety-interlocked door, pull the film tail around the back of the film delivery system, lay it across rollers and close the door. Film threaded right, every time.
  • Powered Pre-Stretch Stretch film is like a rubber band. When stretched, like a rubber band, it wants to “snap back” to its original form. In the Q300’s film carriage, a set of motorized rollers grip and efficiently pre-stretch the film before it’s applied to the load. The film is then allowed to “snap back” around the load. This is called load containment and it’s what ensures your loads get from point A to point B in as-made condition.
  • Auto Film Cut-Off The auto film cut-off feature automatically detaches the film from the load at the end of each wrap cycle. This saves the operator significant time by eliminating the need to leave the fork lift to cut the film manually. The result is increased safety and a rapid ROI for the additional cost of this option.
  • Q300XT Cut and Clamp® – Lantech’s patented XT Cut and Clamp® system uses simple automation to attach the film to the load at the start of each wrap cycle. At the end of the wrap cycle, the XT mechanism cuts the film and clamps it to prepare for the start of the next wrap cycle When using the Q300XT, your drivers can stay on their forklift giving them the opportunity to do something more productive and return to a load that is wrapped ready to be picked up. In addition, because the XT Cut and Clamp® system is entirely electro-mechanical, no compressed air is needed.

Q300 Safety Features

The Q300 was designed from the ground-up with a focus on operator safety.

Turntable

  • A low-profile 65” diameter turntable is standard on every Q300 and Q-series machine. This ensures that a common 40×48 pallet sits completely inside the circumference of the turntable. No overhanging corners protects against trip hazards and foot/ankle injuries.
  • The low-profile design ensures compatibility with hand pallet jacks, motorized pallet jacks and fork trucks.

Operator Controls

All Q-series machines live in idle mode which means the machine has power but cannot start on its own. Activating it requires an intentional action, such as pushing the film assist or start buttons.

Film Carriage

  • The film carriage is located on the same side of the machine as the operator controls. This eliminates the unsafe tendency to walk between the mast and the turntable to attach the film to the load.
  • It’s connected to its motor via a webbed nylon belt. It’s similar to the seatbelt in your car only wider, thicker, and stronger. The film carriage is also counterbalanced to reduce strain on and increase the life of the film carriage motor.
  • It’s safety interlocked eliminating the potential for someone or something to accidentally hit the dancer bar and activate the pre-stretch rollers creating a dangerous pinch point.

Fully Enclosed Design

  • The mast frame structure is made of high strength structural steel with locking ABS Panels to protect motors and wiring.
  • No pinch points or trip hazards
  • All motors and wires completely enclosed.
  • Access to panels requires an Allen wrench. This keeps workers from opening the machine while also allowing easy access for service.
  • The standard machine wraps pallets up to 80” tall but can be retrofitted in the field to handle pallets as tall as 110”.

WARRANTY

All new Q-Series semi-automatic and XT machines come with a “bumper to bumper” 5-year warranty. Lantech maintains parts availability for each and every one of the more than 60,000 Q-Series machines it’s shipped since 1994. When a part is needed, Lantech’s dedicated customer response team can ship more than 90% of parts on the same day.

In many cases, the old parts don’t need to be returned to Lantech to determine who is at fault. That’s because unlike other manufacturers, Lantech has no legal disclaimer about warranty exclusions for wear and tear parts. It’s machines are warranted against manufacturing defects unconditionally for 5 years from the date of shipment.
